Officers from the Westport Police Department were dispatched to a home in town where there was a report of a burglary of the residence, which had been under construction at the time of the alleged theft.

During the overnight hours, various tools and copper flashing were stolen, police said. Surveillance video at the home caught the suspect - later identified as Bridgeport resident Richard Jaiman, 51 - who allegedly made multiple trips into the construction site and occupied a portion of the residence.

It was also determined that Jaiman allegedly stole the copper scrap metal later in the morning, leading to a warrant for his arrest.

On Monday, June 18, police said that Jaiman was spotted in Bridgeport by detectives from the Westport Police Department, at which point he was stopped and taken into custody.

Jaiman was transported to the Westport Police Department, where he was charged with first-degree burglary and fourth-degree larceny.

He was remanded into custody in lieu of $100,000 bond following arraignment in Norwalk Justice Court on Tuesday afternoon, June 19. Jaiman is due to answer the charges later this month in court.
